Reviews
"Shane Ryan is not so much a narrative director as he is a lyrical one, relying much more on atmosphere and the emotions of his scenes than actual action - and The Girl Who Wasn't Missing looks and feels just right, always carrying the right emotions, bringing its points across beautifully, and giving heart to its grim story" -[re]searchmytrash
"It is brutal, disturbing and it grips you in a very emotional way." -Rogue Cinema
"What I like about Ryan’s directorial style is that he brings a sort of artistic beauty to the disturbing/shocking genre of indie film. Like a single flower growing in a pile of corpses, he is able to add a stimulating visual style to a tragic tale of a sad character." -The Film Philosopher
"captures this teenage girl's life without sugar coating. The camera doesn't flinch...[it] deals with some of society's hidden truths and explores the human condition in an honest and confronting way. [Ryan's] films are divisive and challenging and deserve attention...He is a director that I cannot help but admire and can't think of many other filmmakers who speak with a social conscience quite like he does." -FakeShemp.net
"Shane Ryan has managed to surprise us with this film...a dark story that reflects the moral and material misery of some parts of the United States you can find also in Europe...the director has mastered the techniques of image...a new expressive form of cinema" -MyFilm.gr
"a cautionary...dark tale filled with gritty visuals on top of a depressing story...there’s a level of artistic proficiency here that easily elevates [Ryan] above the typical shock/exploitation directors." -Film Pulse
"Lanette's anchoring performance is heartbreakingly true...a telling title which could depressingly relate to any number of misunderstood, alienated youths kicked out onto the streets in recent years - deserves to be seen" -SexGoreMutants.co.uk
"Shane Ryan delivers a powerful outing...The Girl Who Wasn't Missing is one hell of a masterpiece...This movie may change your life. It will damn well make you look at life from a different perspective from now on...a beautifully crafted piece of cinema" -Texas Terror Entertainment
