Reviews
"Tag impresses by being uncomfortable and tense without the need for the cheap jump scare or overabundance of gore...sets up quite a bit in its 5 minutes, and delivers on all counts. Like the best supernatural tales, one is left with a certain level of the ambiguity...Shane Ryan’s Tag is a quality, disturbing horror short that plays on a number of genre conventions" -Film Threat
"bizarre and surreal" -HorrorNews.net
"a really, REALLY well done J-Horror flick. What makes this extra impressive is not just the fact that it is low-budget, not just the fact that it is 4 ½ minutes long, but also the fact that this J-Horror flick was written and directed by an American dude. Wow...It packs an emotional wallop into its sparse running time...There is a lot of squeamishness created without much actual violence shown, and there is a lot of emotion created without much time to develop it...a beautifully made film...It was amazing how quick it drew me in, and I was amazed at how beautifully it presented the grotesqueness displayed on screen. It was a great example of how much impact you can fit into a small package, if you know how to package it correctly." -Ryan's Reviews
"experimental, haunting and bizarre...I was totally hypnotized...a well directed, emotionally executed, twisted dramatization that I was utterly fascinated by."
-A Southern Life in Scandalous Times
"tense and creepy...That the whole film works so well is of course thanks to the two actresses, both of whom deliver compelling performances, and a nuanced directorial effort by Shane Ryan that doesn't go for obvious effects and instead concentrates on atmosphere" -[re]searchmytrash
"This is a side of director Shane Ryan that I’ve never seen before...Ryan’s short film is a spooky, unnerving, and gruesome bit of revenge cinema that channels the likes of Takashi Shimizu for a short that’s based heavily on violence, murders, and the ever merciless demon of guilt that plagues our young protagonist...Director Shane Ryan has managed to really flip his style of filmmaking on a dime with such an atmospheric and terrifying bit of Japanese horror and I can’t wait to see what he can do in the future with other forms of genre filmmaking. If he can offer a short J horror gem, one can only imagine what he could do with a feature length format." -Cinema Crazed
